Bursal surgery Hydrocele The intervention, which is proposed to you, is intended to treat the size which you present at the level of the purse. Why this action? A hydrocele is an accumulation of fluid in a "pocket" surrounding the testicle. This hydrocele is responsible for a more or less significant increase in volume of a purse. It is a mild disease that does not risk becoming infected or progressing to a more serious disease. On the other hand, it can be responsible for discomfort, pain or aesthetic damage. The purpose of the intervention is to return your purse to a normal volume and to eliminate the symptoms for which you consulted. The lack of treatment exposes you to the risk of an increase in the volume of the purse with the appearance or aggravation of clinical disorders. Are there other possibilities? There is no medical treatment for hydrocele. Treatment of hydrocele by puncture or injection of a sclerosing product can be proposed, but the risk of recurrence is high and secondary treatment by surgery becomes more difficult.

Preparation for the intervention As with any surgery, a pre-operative anesthesia consultation is required a few days before the operation. The intervention takes place under general or loco-regional anesthesia. Shaving and disinfection of the operating area are carried out the day before or the morning of the intervention. Surgical technique The intervention is carried out by a short incision at the level of the purse or above the fold of the groin. It consists of removing the pocket or simply shirring it depending on the abnormalities encountered intraoperatively. A drain is sometimes left in place temporarily. Usual consequences If a drain has been put in place, it is removed in the first postoperative days; the pain at the level of the incision is usually minimal and temporary The duration of hospitalization varies from one to a few days on the indications of the surgeon. Local home care is prescribed; baths are not recommended until healing is achieved. For a few weeks the purse remains enlarged and a small swelling around the testicle can sometimes persist, corresponding to the healed "pocket". Convalescence and work stoppage are adapted to the job you do. A follow-up consultation with your urologist is scheduled a few weeks after the procedure.
